Make a Plan

Now you have your domain name and web hosting service purchased, creating your website design should be easy. Make a plan for you to be able to jump start right and organized. Given below is a checklist for you to start:

·         Put in paper all your ideas about how you are going to promote your site’s products and services and how you would want them to know all about your company.

·         The best place to go for you to get good ideas is your competitor’s website. Write down in paper what you want best about their website and what you don’t like about it.

·         To make a good impression to your visitors, arrange your website according to the parts that need focus and more visibility.

·         There are many ways to earn in creating a website. If you do not have products and services to offer, you might as well promote others by joining different affiliate sites. On the other hand, avoid joining each and every program so your site would not look like a newspaper’s classified ads section.

·         Make use of a site map. Site maps will provide both the search engine and your users the ability to navigate through your site smoothly. For you to be able to start mapping, you can map out your web pages from the main page down to the other pages of your site. Keeping a sitemap will help you get more organized.

Your web design is a very significant part of your entire site, probably the most significant. When your audience gets into your site and finds it not user-friendly, they will not think twice about exiting your page which makes you lose chance of increasing your sales. Listed are some do’s and don’ts to help you organize your web layout.

Don’ts

-          Dark colors and very bright colors is a major turn-off because it is very distracting.

-          Images made as a background makes a website load too slow.

-          Don’t make your page very wide because people doesn’t have the time to scroll sideways in order to read your content.

-          Avoid using blinking and moving graphics.

-          Make your navigation menu as few as you can.

Always remember that most of your visitors were able to find you via search engines and it is therefore required that your content should first be search engine friendly (to get more visitors) and customer-friendly so your visitors will keep visiting, most of all, purchase your products and services offered.

Website content refers to all texts and images that can be found in your website.   As you create your own website, all its content should be developed simultaneously as well so you will be able to integrate all the necessary information needed for your visitors’ use.  Below are other things to consider in writing your website’s content.

●      Emphasize the important keywords to highlight your products and services to encourage them to purchase.

●      Use engaging images that have alt+texts or alternative texts so that they can be crawled by the search engines and as well as provide visual effects and information to your audience.

●      Although a Flash-built website looks interesting, most of your visitors hit the close button even before loading the website completely.  Flash-built websites are not indexed by search engines as well.

●      Using iFrames is not advisable as well.  Just like a flash-built design, it is not usually crawled by most of the search engines.

●      Using music and videos to add to your content is alright, for as long as it does not automatically play once a user opens your website.  Your audience (and maybe potential customers or clients) might not find it overwhelming that they instantaneously get away from your website. If you want to include music and videos, give them the freedom to decide to either listen or view any of it.

●      Provide a compelling content that captures the eye of your readers, something more informative and credible.  Be sure not to duplicate content from other sources.

●      Review your own content and always consider revision when necessary.
